"Once upon a time, there was a little girl. She lived in a town four hours away from here, in a house on a street named Daisy Lane. She had a mother and a father and her own room and a TV and sometimes could stay up late to watch movies on the weekend if she ate all her dinner. She had a cat and three best friends and wanted ti work with dolphins. She had posters of them on her walls, ad her computer screen saver was one, a dolphin with warm eyes and a sweet grin gleaming out at you. All her stuffed animals, except for the stupid ones her grandparents gave her, were dolphins. One day she went to the aquarium. She wore blue jeans and a white shirt (no logos, no designs), and sneakers (white, with white socks). She went with her fifth-grade class, and since it was three days before her birthday, she thought her friends would let her sit by the window on the bus. They didn't, and when they got to the aquarium there weren't any dolphins and her friends got mad because she wouldn't loan them her lip gloss- it was new, it tasted cream soda, and she didn't want to share. She was a selfish little girl. She paid for it." (8-9)
This is Kayla, she was kidnapped. His name is Ray, calls her Alice. He's a complete pedophile. He stole her when she was 9, almost turning 10. And now she's 15... There were other Alice's before Kayla. And he let them go when they were 15, she hates it there but running away means Ray will kill her family. I could never imagine living with a man who violates your human rights and brain washes you into making you believe he's taking care of you. This is just a book, but imagine how many real life events are happening right now similar to this. It's abominable what the world is becoming; when my parents were young they rarely heard about kidnapping but now a days is a very common thing. Ray has a thing for little girls, maybe it's the soft skin or the fact that their innocence is still the key of their personality; either way when Alice start to grow he hits her so hard against the ground and commits the unforgivable...
"Three life lessons: 1. No one will see you. 2. No one will say anything. 3. No one will save you. I know the once upon a time stories say, but they lie. That's what stories are, you know. " (55)
This quote right here reminds me of almost everyone I know. This is called indifference. There are three kinds of people in this world: the sinner, the victim and the spectator. You can't choose to be a victim, but when it comes to the first and the last; you can choose to sin. But when you watch, there are two choices: make a difference telling someone or stopping it yourself but most of the world choses to indifferent. Meaning there are hundreds of crimes committed every day and there are spectators, who know what happened but they don't say anything because they think it's not their problem to solve. We must change this because silence is equal to becoming the sinner. The quote mentions stories are lies, which is true. TV shows and fairy tales brainwash you to make you believe everything is happy and nothing bad will happen to you...
SLOUCH
- to sit or stand with an awkward, drooping posture.
- She sat in a slouch position after she fell into the pool.
ALLEGE
- to assert without proof.
- The police alleged he killed the poor girl, but there was no solid evidence.
TEDIOUS
- marked by tedium; long and tiresome
- It was such a tedious ride on the way home, I was about to throw up.
VEXED
- irritated; annoyed
- I was vexed by the monkeys screams!
GHASTLY
- shockingly frightful or dreadful; horrible
- It was such a ghastly crime, he should be in jail.
